everal historical archives record the presence of olive trees in the hilly areas of Romagna, and the importance of olive oil production in the region's rural economy, spanning from early antiquity to the early 1900s, when only locally produced olives were pressed in Romagna’s oil mills.
Romagna's microclimate, coupled with the agronomic expertise of its farmers, yields a high-quality olive oil with distinctive chemical and organoleptic properties.
The Colline di Romagna D.O.P. extra virgin olive oil has a distinctively fruity, slightly bitter and, sometimes, piquant flavor. It is produced in an area that extends from the hills of the province of Rimini, close to the Adriatic coast, to those of the province of Forlì-Cesena. The olive is the only tree that can be cultivated in this territory, along with vines. Planted on steep slopes that are unsuitable for other uses, olive trees have long been an important element in this region’s rural landscape.
Thanks to its complex flavor, the Colline di Romagna D.O.P. extra virgin olive oil is the perfect complement to rich dishes like grilled meat, wild greens, boiled vegetables, legumes, and first courses.
