A family-owned vineyard estate and winery in the Brunello region of Tuscany, CASTELLO BANFI’s dedication to excellence in all aspects has won the approval of aficionados the world over, capturing honor after prestigious honor. A constellation of single vineyards are located on ideal sites that cover one third of this contiguous estate of 2,830 hectares (7,100 acres), the rest made up of bucolic meadows, olive and plum groves, and woodland. Central to the property is a medieval castle that functions as a hospitality center, hosting visitors at a full service restaurant, taverna, enoteca and museum dedicated to the history of glass and its relation to wine.
Signature wines of the CASTELLO BANFI estate, in addition to Poggio all’Oro Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, are three proprietary cuvées, ExcelsuS, SummuS and Cum Laude. Several noble varietals, including Tavernelle Cabernet Sauvignon, Fontanelle Chardonnay and San Angelo Pinot Grigio, are produced there as well as traditional wines of the region, such as Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, an extra vergine olive oil, and a balsamic vinegar called “Salsa Balsamica Etrusca.”
The Mariani family, owners of CASTELLO BANFI, also acquired a mid-18th century winery in Strevi, Piedmont and named the facility VIGNE REGALI. At this “sister winery,” skilled winemakers produce Argusto Dolcetto d'Acqui D.O.C., a ruby red still wine, and two exceptional sparkling wines: BANFI Brut Metodo Tradizionale Classico, and BANFI "Rosa Regale" Brachetto d'Acqui D.O.C.G., from the LA ROSA a single vineyard.
Just a few kilometers from Strevi lies the PRINCIPESSA GAVIA estate established by the Marianis around the same time as VIGNE REGALI. This single vineyard is dedicated exclusively to the dedication of the Cortese di Gavi grape, the sole white grape used to make the prized PRINCIPESSA GAVI and PRINCIPESSA PERLANTE wines.
