The village of Streda in Vinci, Florence is one of the oldest settlements in the area. History claims that the Streda church dates back to the XI-XII century. Numerous activities evolved around the church, the most typical of which involves wine production, which as our fellow-countryman, Leonardo da Vinci would later say, these regions produced an excellent quality wine, which brightened men’s spirits. Moving along in history we arrive to modern times; a few decades ago Mr. Roberto Lenzi purchased land around Streda, which was rather abandoned at the time, and he brought new life to the area by re-planting over 40 hectares of grapevines and olive trees along the whole stretch of what is now referred to as the Streda Farming Company. This land covers approximately 90 hectares. The elegant Chianti wine, which can only be produced in this region, started being made once again. The year 1999 marked an important turning point, when Mr. Lenzi was joined by his son Claudio, and during this time followed the crucial decision of Streda’s qualitative choice. Subsequently, interventions of green pruning and thinning out bunches to improve the quality of the harvested grapes were undertaken in the vineyards. Improved methods also occurred in the cellar, with a progressive, increasingly more attentive control of the various processes, with the focus of improving the quality of all of the wines. The company also started collaborating with the young, but already expert wine specialist, Francesco Bartoletti, in order to optimise these objectives. After a careful examination of the potential, in keeping with the present demand, a mixed variety made of Sangiovese and Merlot was created, which would be given the name of Casanova di Streda, whose name derives from the vineyards where most of these grapes are harvested (Casanova Vineyard). This wine is an excellent example of a new wine with a Supertuscan air. Producing superior quality wines with competitive pricing is the overall objective of Streda Belvedere wines.
