Raising The Wine Bar: Indigenous Italian Varietals, a Priceless Asset In Successful On-Premise Management

Wednesday, January 28th - 10:00am - New York
The New York Palace Hotel, Hubbard Room
David Lynch is a sommelier and author whose book, Vino Italiano, is the Italian wine lover's reference of choice. He is currently the General Manager and Wine Director of The John Dory, a new restaurant in New York City, and he was previously the Wine Director and General Manager of New York's famed Babbo Ristorante. In addition to his restaurant work, David remains active as a writer, publishing articles on wine and food in publications such as GQ, Food & Wine and Gourmet.
Before Babbo, David was a Senior Editor at Wine & Spirits, where he won a James Beard Journalism Award for his writing. In 2000 he left the magazine to travel in Italy, an experience which not only spawned the IACP award-winning Vino Italiano but launched a new career - that of a sommelier, working for Vino Italiano co-author Joseph Bastianich and chef Mario Batali. During his tenure, David grew Babbo's wine program into one of the nation's best, winning a 2004 James Beard Award for Outstanding Wine Service.
He and Bastianich published their second book, Vino Italiano Buying Guide, in 2004 and recently revised and updated that volume, releasing the new edition in August of 2008.
In addition to opening The John Dory in the fall of 2008, David also celebrated the release of his latest book, the satirical Wine Snob's Dictionary, co-authored with David Kamp. He lives in New York with his wife, Josie, and their son, Ellis.
