Giuseppe Martelli is an enologist and biologist.
He began his career at Sella e Mosca, one of the most prominent wineries in Italy, started teaching science in 1974, and worked with the Experimental Institute of Viticulture and Enology, an operating branch of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Martelli continued teaching until 1978, when he was appointed to manage the Italian Association of Enologists (Associazione Enologi Enotecnici Italiani), an organization that represents the Italian winemaking industry, managing its public image and providing educational tools to its members. Founded in 1981, it is the oldest association of Enologists in the world.
Since 1979 Martelli has represented Italy at the World Federation Association of Enologists (Union Internationale des Œenologues).
In 1994 Martelli was nominated to sit on the board of the Italian National Wine Committee, a branch of the Ministry of Agriculture, and in 2008 the Italian Minister of Agriculture, Luca Zaia, appointed him President of the Committee.
Martelli has been awarded with high honors from the Republic of Italy (Commendatore and Grande Ufficiale al merito della Repubblica Italiana).
