Barbara Tamburini was born and raised in Tuscany. She holds two degrees, one in Food Technologies and the other in Viticulture and Oenology, both from the University of Pisa.
In her work, Barbara leaves ample room for collaboration with institutions and associations whose objective is to characterize and assess the sensorial impact of wines. She is enrolled in the Roll of Wine Tasters and Technicians in various areas of production under Appellation contrôlée and is President of the DOC Bolgheri, which is renowned for the production of prestigious red wines.
She is involved in the activity of the most famous Italian wine tasting associations, teaching viticulture and oenological techniques: AIS (Italian Association of Sommeliers), FISAR (Italian Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Sommeliers) and the ONAV. (National Association of Wine Tasters).
Barbara is a wine-growing and oenological consultant for prestigious companies in various regions of Italy. Her activity has found its maximum level of expression in Tuscany, where Barbara has accrued great experience in the vinification of Sangiovese grapes, earning various awards. She works for 24 Wineries in Italy: 18 are in Tuscany, one is in Lombardia, one is in Piemonte, two in Umbria and one in Sicily. She has been awarded with the Slow Food Award as Italy’s youngest oenologist, with the 2004 Wine Oscar Nomination for the category of Best Oenologist and with the 2004 Tuscany Wines Award.
She has also gained oenological and wine-growing experience abroad, at the Viña Robles in Paso Robles, California, where she participated in the qualitative and quantitative decisions for the 2001 harvest and in drawing up the program for the management of new plantings. Barbara has recently also reached the Luigi Veronelli 2007 Award as best up-and-coming young Italian winemaker "for the sensibility and the engagement with which she has found the best interpretation key for the superlative quality wines, that they can answer for the demands of the modern costumer with elegant sobriety, without excesses."
Barbara works to obtain top quality wines; in other words, she likes to fly high - like she did on October 29th, 2004, when she climbed into an MB339, the mythical jet of the Frecce Tricolori Italian acrobatic pilots team, and took a one hour acrobatic flight in the skies of Friuli with the team commander - she was only the fifth woman in the world to do so.
