Federvini

Federvini Association

Federvini is the Italian Association of Industrial Producers, Exporters and Importers of Wines, Spirits, Syrups and Vinegars and Similar Products. Founded in 1917, it was and is the only national organization in Italy—in the whole of Europe, in fact—representing the entirety of the alcoholic-drink sector, with the exception of beer.

A member of Confindustria as well as a founding member of Federalimentare, two other important trade associations, Federvini represents prestigious brands of ancient lineage that still have relevance today and that still play a role in Italy’s culture and way of life.

The organization’s primary objective is to represent and protect the interests of its associate members whenever new laws, regulations and other legal provisions, or revisions to existing laws, are being contemplated or prepared. The organization systematically represents the industrial sectors in all cases concerning food and vitivinicultural discipline; production, packaging, transportation and trading; and direct and indirect taxation. Federvini plays a critically important role in the management of the sector’s employment relations by negotiating the renewal of the Collective Labor Agreements on behalf of its members; drafting guidelines for the so-called "integration agreements"; and seeking to mediate and resolve specific local problems.

In Italy, in addition to its participation in working committees at Confindustria and Federalimentare, Federvini is also active in the National Committee for Wines with Denomination of Origin and for Regional Wines, the Technical Consulting Committee for Agricultural Alcohol of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Working Group of “Codex Alimentarius,” the commission created by the United Nations World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization. Its purpose is to create a compendium of globally accepted guidelines, operating standards and codes of practice governing food production and food safety. As a document created for the protection of consumer health and the propagation of fair practices, the “Codex Alimentarius” is recognized by the World Trade Organization as an international reference point for the resolution of disputes.

In the European Union, Federvini experts operate within Wine-Spirits and Rural Development Consulting Groups, European Trade and Industry Committee for Wines, and European Confederation of Spirits Producers, and the International Permanent Committee for Vinegar. Internationally, Federvini is also partnered with the International Federation of Wines and Spirits, and its representatives are members of the Official Italian Delegation to the International Organization of Vine and Wine.

Federvini also seeks to educate and inform the general public about the inherent qualities and inherent characteristics of the products it represents. Recently, Federvini partnered with the University of Bologna to conduct a joint study on Italy’s production and distribution of wine, spirits and vinegar. Their results were released in a power point presentation. Moreover, the organization has worked to disseminate and popularize the measured good sense of the Mediterranean Diet and Mediterranean Lifestyle amongst the general public.

Federvini will be sponsoring the Vino After-Hours Lounge "The Spirit of Italy". Check out the Convention Program for times and information. Also be sure to download the exclusive Vino 2011 cocktail recipes from the Press Room!
