| The ideal environment for the development and growth of the white truffle of Piedmont (tuber magnatum pico) is oak wood. Often, white truffles are also found growing under willows and poplars along the banks of rivers, streams and ditches, or among the gardens and rows of linden trees - provided that the quality and conditions of the soil are suitable for growth, such as limestone, or clay-limestone with traces of silica.
Altitude also plays an important role in the development of a white truffle, as it is rarely found in areas located more than 500-600 meters above sea level. But, white truffles can be very unpredictable and are known to grow wherever the most suited tree roots are located, even in vineyards where willow or oak posts sometimes flourish in the infinite resources of nature.
Places with lush vegetation, however, where the earth is damp and sunrays rarely break through, will always be the most likely to hold in store pleasant surprises. |
