Vine variety requirements for this appellation's area change according to type.
Type Bianco: Trebbiano romagnolo, 50-70%; Biancame and/or Mostosa, 30-50%; other local white varieties, up to 20%.
Type Rosso: Sangiovese, 60-75%; Cabernet sauvignon, 15-25%; Merlot and/or Barbera and/or Montepulciano and/or Ciliegiolo and/or Terrano and/or Ancellotta, up to 25%.
Type Cabernet sauvignon: Cabernet sauvignon, 85%; other local red varieties, up to 15%.
Type Biancame: Biancame, 85%; Pignoletto and/or Chardonnay and/or Riesling italico and/or Sauvignon and/or Pinot bianco and/or Müller Thurgau, up to 15%.
Type Rébola: Pignoletto, 85%; Biancame and/or Mostosa and/or Trebbiano romagnolo, up to 15%.
