Vine variety requirements for this appellation's area change according to type.
Types Rosso and Novello: Sangiovese, 50%; Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Ciliegiolo and/or Lacrima and/or Merlot and/or Montepulciano and/or Vernaccia nera, up to 50%; other local non-aromatic red varieties, up to 15%.
Types Bianco and Spumante: Maceratino, 70%; Trebbiano toscano and/or Verdicchio and/or Malvasia toscana and/or Chardonnay and/or Sauvignon and/or Incrocio Bruni 54 and/or Pecorino and/or Grechetto, up to 30%; other local non-aromatic white varieties, up to 15%
Type Passito: Maceratino, 70%; Trebbiano toscano and/or Verdicchio and/or Malvasia toscana and/or Chardonnay and/or Sauvignon and/or Incrocio Bruni 54 and/or Pecorino and/or Grechetto, up to 30%; other local non-aromatic white varieties, up to 15%.
Type Ribona: Maceratino, 85%; other local varieties, up to 15%.
