Varieties:
Vine variety requirements for this appellation's area change according to type.
Type Rosso and Rosato: Sangiovese, 50-60%; Aglianico, 20-40%; Piedirosso and/or Sciascinoso and/or other local red varieties, up to 30%.
Type Bianco: Trebbiano toscano, 40-60%; Falanghina and/or Coda di Volpe and/or Malvasia toscana and/or Malvasia di Candia, up to 60%; other local white varieties, up to 20%.
Type Spumante: Falanghina, 60-100%; other local non-aromatic white varieties, up to 40%.
Varietal types: the blend proportions are always the same, variety indicated in the type name, 85-100%; other similar local varieties, 15%.
