Varieties:
Vine variety requirements for this appellation's area change according to type.
Types Rosso and Rosato: Sangiovese, 50-70%; Canaiolo, 15-30%; Trebbiano toscano, up to 10%; other local red varieties, up to 15%.
Type Bianco: Trebbiano toscano, 50-70%; Grechetto, 15-40%; other local white varieties, up to 15%.
Type Spumante: Chardonnay, 40-50%; Pinot nero, 40-50%; other local white varieties, up to 15%.
Varietal types: the blend proportions are always the same, variety indicated in the type name, 85%; other similar varieties admitted under the DOC law, 15%.
