Campidano di Terralba or Terralba (DOC)

he Campidano di Terralba, or Rosso di Terralba as it is generally called on Sardinia, consists 80 per cent of Bovale di Spagna, also known as Bovale Grande, Bovale Sardo and Bovale Mannu, among other terms. It is a variety that has been cultivated on Sardinia since the beginning of the period when Spain acquired control over the island.

The Campidano had long been in demand as a red blending wine in the north of Italy and in France and it had won official recognition for that purpose late in the last century. However, its scents and flavors were so attractive that the wine also received recognition as a beverage in its own right and that appeal was in no way undercut by the relatively high alcohol level.

With the introduction of new and more rational installations and the adoption of training techniques that are more "expansive" than the traditional alberello Sardo system, the Campidano di Terralba has evolved into a much finer and less aggressive wine that is well-adapted to new styles of consumption that are now shaping the markets.
