Colli Tortonesi (DOC)

he Colli Tortonesi area includes 30 communes, all of which are located in the province of Alessandria, and extends from the Monferrato to the Oltrepò Pavese. Two varieties are predominantly used in the production of Colli Tortonesi DOC wines. One denomination is derived from the red variety Barbera and the other from the white variety Cortese.

Although the origins of the two varieties are quite ancient, citations of both go back only several centuries. Among them, the first ampelography of the varieties cultivated in Piedmont, compiled by Count Nuvolone, deputy director of the Agrarian Society of Turin in 1798, provides the most detailed description of the varieties.
