Colline Novaresi (DOC)

he area of Piedmont where Colline Novaresi D.O.C. is produced is also home to great wines of established historical background like Ghemme D.O.C.G., Sizzano D.O.C., Boca D.O.C. and Fara D.O.C. As often in similar cases, these important wines have overshadowed their minor siblings, even though the latter have enough character to win the praises of experts if only they were produced in a less crowded area.

The introduction of the Colline Novaresi D.O.C. appellation in 1994 offered a small group of local producers a chance to find a niche for their wines, which are the true expressions of the local winemaking traditions.

Colline Novaresi wines are made with grape varieties that have prospered for centuries in these hills. They have great character, as demonstrated by the Vespolina, Croatina and Nebbiolo varieties. (The latter is called Spanna here to distinguish it from Nebbiolo grapes grown elsewhere in Piedmont.)
