Lison-Pramaggiore (DOC)

he Lison-Pramaggiore DOC was created only recently, the result of a fusion of two pre-existing Denominazione di Origine Controllata areas: Cabernet of Pramaggiore and Tocai of Lison.

The district extends from the province of Pordenone in Friuli-Venezia Giulia as far as the vast plain bounded by the sea to the south and by the Conegliano and Montello hills to the northwest. The river Piave flows through the plain, which, around the river, is shared by the provinces of Treviso and Venice. These flatlands consist principally of sediment and vines flourish in such soils, guaranteeing growers constant and abundant production.

In this area, as in other parts of the Veneto, it was once the custom to plant several varieties in alternating rows in the same vineyard. More recently, the need for more rational cultivation has led the growers to renew their vineyards, which has profoundly changed the production profile of the Lison-Pramaggiore wines. The new vitivinicultural approach was initiated about 30 years ago with the conversion of the vineyards to specialized culture. In the replanting, considerable space was dedicated to Merlot, in particular, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon and Tocai Italico, which now account for the major part of the Lison-Pramaggiore DOC output.
