Merlara (DOC)

he area where Merlara D.O.C. is produced is situated between the provinces of Verona and Padua. The entire territory of this D.O.C., which surrounds the village of Merlara, enjoys identical climatic and geological conditions while all of its vineyards enjoy a similar exposure to sunlight.

Merlara has pre-Roman origins, but its historical importance is largely traceable to the Middle Ages. In fact, most of its architectural gems date back to the year 1000 A.D.

Merlara has a very fertile countryside. Consequentially, winegrowing has always been one of the most important activities of its inhabitants. Its wine, however, ended up mostly in the cellars of traders who specialized in the better-known wines of neighboring regions. It has been only in the past two decades that local administrators and vintners have started investing in the image and quality of Merlara wines. The results have been very good both qualitatively and from an economic point of view.

The Merlara D.O.C. appellation was established in the year 2000 as a natural consequence of these efforts. It includes a wide range of wines, from the lively Marzemino Frizzante to the austere Cabernet Sauvignon, which can satisfy every request of modern wine lovers.
