hen the D.O.C. regulations were being discussed for this wine, one of the main questions was whether or not the subtitle "Wines of Sand" should be added to the official Arcole appellation.Arcole, in fact, sits in the middle of a D.O.C. area, bordering with the provinces of Verona and Vicenza, with a high percentage of silt and sand in its soil. This gives the wine of Arcole its particular taste. As to the subtitle, it was eventually discarded because it might have created some involuntary confusion with the Vin de Sable of Provence, which is totally different from Arcole both in taste and in the characteristics of the territory where it is produced.
Arcole D.O.C. includes a wide range of wines, the best of which are Merlot Riserva and Cabernet Riserva, aged two years in wooden barrels.
