Valdadige Terradeiforti (DOC)

erradeiforti is the name of a valley shaped by receeding glaciers in the Quaternary period, which was then carved out by the Adige River. The area has since Roman times, been a major communication route between the Mediterranean Sea and trade routes through the Alps. The numerous castles and fortresses built along this mighty river are a testiment to many centuries of valley history.

The sharp, steep and rocky cliffs forested at times with thick forests, dominate the Adige valley on one side, while steep slopes covered with vegetation, and sliced by impassable ravines, dominate it on the other.

The hallmark of this landscape, reflecting the ancient presence of man in the district, is the enormous expanse of vineyards that cover the valley floor interrupted only by an occasional rural settlement.

Valdadige Terradeiforti DOC, is obtained using either red or white grapes. Red wines are produced from two native grape varieties, Enantio and Casetta, and they have great personality, while white wines are made with two international classics, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, both have been grown in this region for the past fifty years. All the grape varieties have adapted so well to the microclimate there that they can safely be considered part of the continuing local wine heritage.
