he territory of the Golfo del Tigullio D.O.C. extends over a vast area between Genoa and the province of La Spezia to the south. It includes a number of valleys, like Val Graveglia and Val Petronio, where winegrowing has very ancient roots. Some of the most enchanting places in Liguria - Portofino, Camogli, Rapallo and Santa Margherita Ligure - are part of this territory.Traditionally, the production of wine in this area has chiefly been geared towards local, if not family, consumption. As a result, local grape varieties were mostly used here. This has been reflected in the D.O.C. regulations, established in 1997, which allow the use only of Ligurian grape varieties - such as the Vermentino, Bianchetta Genovese, Moscato Bianco whites and the Dolcetto and Ciliegiolo reds - and the production of traditional wines, like the Passito, that risked extinction.
